FLUX WebEasy.NET, a powerful new generation content management system (CMS), has been unveiled for Internet and Intranet application. The FLUX website (www.flux.co.za) was one of the first to be built on this feature-rich yet easy-to-use CMS and the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) Intranet, which was launched recently, showcases the software’s application for Intranet use.
Myles Thies, Project Manager at GIBS says: “GIBS considered numerous factors once the decision had been made to implement an Intranet into the business. Some of those factors included, flexibility, the ability to change content quickly and easily as well as ease of administration. WebEasy.NET provides all of these facilities by the bucket load and has allowed GIBS to fulfil all of the primary requirements of our Intranet. In the short time since implementation we have already seen measurable improvements in knowledge management, internal communications, policy awareness and adherence as well as a noted decrease in the improper use and time wasting associated with general shared folders. Better coordination of learning programmes has also been a benefit as a result of GIBSConnect’s implementation.”
Nihan de Kock, Development Manager at FLUX says: “WebEasy.NET enables clients to take control of their website and internal content, giving them the ability to keep information current and sites fresh. The application makes sophisticated technology available to non-technical people, freeing marketing or human resource teams from having to rely on IT support or outsourced consultants.
“The GIBS Intranet has streamlined internal procedures and is an ideal platform to strengthen communication between departments, reinforce culture and values, and manage digital assets from one central location” Nihan de Kock explains.
Endorsing the successful GIBS Intranet implementation, Myles Thies said: “The launch of GIBSConnect has been so well received by staff, that the site and its capabilities are regularly noted in our weekly Programme Managers’ meetings. In addition to this accolade, many of the GIBS staffers have already submitted several new enhancements which they would like to see added to the site in the coming months, after experiencing how reliable and easy it is to work with the site.”
Some of the standard Intranet features include a document management system where everything from leave application forms to policies and procedures can be found quickly and easily. The Image Library stores all visual material in searchable categories so that logos or photographs can be accessed immediately. More advanced features include Active Directory integration, which enables GIBS to manage all their contacts from one central location. All content on the Intranet also follows an advanced workflow process with customisable content approval chains to manage the flow of information. Access to sensitive information is restricted on a departmental or user level with WebEasy.NET’s security and membership module.

Many GIBS employees are experts in their fields and can now share their knowledge with co-workers and students using the GIBS Blog feature. The Intranet events calendar section is linked to the GIBS website, so that any new courses, programmes or functions are listed automatically on the Intranet. As GIBS offers multiple events on a daily basis, this is a most effective practical way of keeping staff updated and preventing clashes. There is also a very popular message board where staff can post announcements or advertise items for sale.
For a dynamic organisation such as GIBS, the launch of a user-friendly Intranet is a cost-effective and efficient way to manage many internal processes simply yet effectively.
